CEA-Saclay-Institut de Physique Theorique-PHD

The studentships, in Theoretical High Energy Physics, will be held at Saclay, starting between January and March of 2021. They are funded by the European Research Council Advanced Grant "Ampl2Einstein". They will focus on applications of scattering amplitudes to calculations of gravitational-wave observables.

Several doctoral positions in quantum field theory

Starting October 1st 2020 the Research Training Group 2575 “Rethinking Quantum Field Theory” funded by the German Research Foundation will take up its activities. They invite applications for several doctoral positions in theoretical physics. The RTG is conducted by all research groups in quantum field theory at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin in cooperation with partners at DESY and the Max-Planck-Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert-Einstein-Institut) in Potsdam. They offer challenging PhD projects in the general areas of:

  • Scattering Amplitudes
  • Phenomenology
  • Lattice Field Theory
  • AdS/CFT Correspondence
  • Analytical Gravitational Waves
  • Mathematical aspects of Quantum Fields

The employment is through 3-year doctoral positions (66.6% salary scale TV-L E13) starting October 1st 2020. Successful applicants should hold a degree equivalent to a Master’s degree in theoretical physics or related areas. Women are particularly encouraged to apply. Perimeter Postdoctoral Program 2020

Each year Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics invites applications for postdoctoral positions, including named fellowships, from new and recent PhDs working in fundamental theoretical physics.

Areas of research include:

  • quantum information
  • quantum gravity

Importantly, research at Perimeter focuses on the intersections of those research areas. Most postdoctoral positions are offered for a period of three years. You may also be eligible for a named four-year postdoctoral fellowship including the Jocelyn Bell Burnell, Stephen Hawking, and Chien-Shiung Wu fellowships. Senior five-year fellowships are also available. Fellowships may, in addition, be offered jointly between Perimeter and partner institutes and universities. Fields-AIMS-Perimeter Institute Africa Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, African Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics invite applications each year for a one-year joint postdoctoral fellowship. This fellowship is a unique position offered to new and recent PhDs who are African Nationals working in the areas of mathematical sciences or fundamental theoretical physics. It is intended to support the careers of young researchers who have a commitment to advance science in Africa.

Perimeter’s areas of strength include classical gravity, condensed matter theory, cosmology, particle physics, quantum fields and strings, quantum foundations, quantum information, and quantum gravity. The Fields Institute supports research in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and computer science, as well as collaboration between mathematicians and those applying mathematics in areas such as engineering, the physical and biological sciences, medicine, and economics and finance. While research interests for the selected fellow may dictate either Perimeter or Fields as a home institute, they will be encouraged to spend time at both institutes. Fundamental Physics with Radio Telescopes

Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and National Research Council Canada (NRC) are pleased to announce two postdoctoral fellowships for outstanding young scientists working on theory, data analysis, or innovative instrumental development related to radio astronomy. This new initiative is a collaboration between Perimeter and NRC’s Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO), the site of Canada’s revolutionary CHIME Telescope.

The next few years will be transformative for radio astronomy, as instruments like the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) with unprecedented statistical power, come online. They will open new windows onto fundamental physics, including dark matter, gravity and neutrinos, and help to resolve puzzles such as the origin of fast radio bursts (FRBs). These instruments present new challenges in experiment, data analysis and high-performance computing. The Perimeter-DRAO partnership will combine theorists, data analysts, and instrumentalists at the leading edge of this very exciting field.

Scientists at the Perimeter Institute are part of the CHIME, CHIME/FRB, HIRAX (Hydrogen Intensity and Real-time Analysis Experiment), and EHT (Event Horizon Telescope) collaborations among others.
