The Department of Physics is an active part of the university's services supporting businesses. In the spirit of Open Science, it aims to enhance the large research facilities by integrating them into external networks beyond the university. Through the new "Scientific and Technological Services Portal for Businesses," many of the Department’s instruments have been organized into thematic clusters and specific services, covering fields from applied physics to biology, medicine, plasmas, electronics, the environment, and cultural heritage.

The dialogue and collaboration between businesses and research groups are facilitated by the Contact Point (ricerca.imprese@unimib.it), a one-stop service which includes faculty and technicians from the Department. This point receives requests from businesses and forwards them within the university.

Many of the Department of Physics’ instruments are also part of the ISIS@MACH ITALIA (IM@IT) infrastructure, of which the university is a key node, managing a multilayered Transnational Access (TA) program for users from both academia and industry.

These multiple channels provide structured and professional access to a wide range of advanced scientific instruments and specialized expertise in the fields of applied physics, materials science, and technologies for analyzing various samples, fostering increasing collaboration between the academic research world and the industrial sector.
